What is Alkalinity of Water?
Generally, alkalinity refers to the ability of water to neutralize acid. Alkalinity can be due to the presence of different ions such as bicarbonates, hydroxides and carbonates. The most common source of alkalinity is bicarbonates since almost all natural sources of alkaline have a significant level of this ion.
Alkalinity however, should not be confused with pH since these two are totally different things. And although alkaline means base, water does not need to be extremely basic or high in pH to be considered to have high alkalinity.
